Ever wonder about the giant giraffe on display at Mahoney Library? That happens to be "Fresno the Giraffe" who lived right here in Sonoma County for much of his life. From the PressDemocrat: "The skeleton of a 17-foot-tall giraffe that in life pleased visitors at Safari West preserve has been rebuilt at the Petaluma campus of Santa Rosa Junior College."
From the September 2010 issue of Insider: "For several years, Biology Instructor Nick Anast and his students have prepared skeletons for animal displays for classes to study. This summer Nick’s classes rearticulated the skeletons of a cougar and an African giraffe, antelope, and hornbill. The giraffe skeleton will remain permanently at the Petaluma Campus in the library for students and visitors to enjoy."
