Puente Learning Communities
If you place in English 100, consider enrolling in one of the Puente Learning Communities. This well-established program links English 100 with a Counseling course in the fall semester and then English 1A with a follow-up Counseling course in the spring. An English instructor and Counseling instructor will work with you and your classmates all year to help you establish strong academic and social connections so you successfully achieve college-level work. You will also benefit from the guidance from your Puente mentor who will share his or her academic and professional expertise with you as you navigate your college courses and responsibilities. This highly supportive environment will allow you to explore your academic goals as you refine your college-level reading and writing abilities. Affiliated with the statewide Puente program, SRJC’s Puente community provides curriculum that focuses on Latino literature and experiences. SRJC was one of ten community colleges in California to pilot the Puente program approximately 20 years ago.
