Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Where is wireless access available?

A: SRJC provides wireless access in the Doyle Library and on the entire Petaluma campus. For a more thorough listing of SRJC wireless locations, please see the information posted for SRJC Public Wireless.

Q: How do I get connected?

A: Make sure that the wireless capabilities of your device are enabled. Every device is different but typically there is a network control panel item that includes wireless configuration. Look for SRJC Public Wireless in your list of available wireless networks.  If you cannot see this network, you may not be in range. Once connected, launch your web browser and agree to the terms and conditions of the disclaimer.

Note: SRJC employees can register their personal mobile devices to gain access to a more seamless and secure wireless network experience.

Q: Is it safe to connect?

A: The security of your device and your data is your responsibility. There will be no authentication and no encryption provided for guest network access. Wireless users, not the college, are solely responsible for the proper upkeep and protection of their devices and software. Although the wireless network is monitored, the integrity of your laptop or device and the integrity of the wireless network rely upon up-to-date operating systems, antivirus software and personal firewalls. It is strongly recommended that users keep current with the latest operating system and application patches, antivirus software and definitions, and personal firewall protection. Additionally, wireless traffic is not encrypted, and your usage habits while attached to this network should take this into account. Since this is an open network, we can make no guarantees on safe computing or individual security. Do not send personal information to web sites that you do not explicitly trust.

Q: I am not able to access a particular web site.  Why?

A: SRJC public wireless allows access to standard web browsing ports including port 80 (http) and port 443 (https).  We do not allow non-standard port communications.
