Deborah Kaye is the Professional Development Director at Los Angeles Valley College, served as Faculty Accreditation Chair from 2005-2007, and has taught English at the college part-time since 1988. She works for the Los Angeles Community College District’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness as District Liaison for Accreditation to assist the nine colleges with their accreditation self study process and reports. Her previous accreditation site visit was in Fall 2007 to the Norco Campus in Riverside as Team Assistant.
She is the elected secretary of the Los Angeles College Faculty Guild, AFT 1521, the union representing faculty in the district. She co-chairs the Guild’s Adjunct Issues Committee, wrote its award-winning Adjunct Survival Guide, and is active in FACCC, CFT, and other statewide organizations promoting faculty issues.
She is a professional editor and writer, currently editing newsletters for the LACCD District Academic Senate and the CFT. She has written for various newspapers and magazines and has produced segments for two PBS newsmagazine programs on education, The Merrow Report and Learning Matters.
As a volunteer, she has devoted a great deal of time to serving her community, in such diverse roles such as PTA president, fundraiser for nonprofit organizations, and video interviewer for the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation. She is married and has two daughters, both in college.
