Nothing Precious (Day One)

----

ASSIGNMENT

o materials and nothing to do? That is how it usually is on the first day of class; but not in this class. Today, we will draw on chalkboards. The subject will be a bunch of old bones. And yes, we will destroy everything (but not until next week). Your first days effort will be on display for the whole Art Department to see. So try not to be too nervous, and we won't put names on anything (just numbers).

Draw with line. Shading will come later. At most, shade with lines (hatching) rather than tone. Keep an eye out for form. As you draw, try to visually "ride" the outline of the shapes you see.

Draw BIG BIG BIG! Fill the board to the edges. Erase as necessary, leaving ghosts.

Create a "place" for the bones by making a shadow.

As forms within the bone outline come towards you, make interior lines to define this contour. Those lines sometimes are only connected at one end to the perimeter outline as seen above. Thicker lines depict greater form change (thinner/fainter depicts little change).
