A textured background provides interesting challenges.

he goals of this project are to study shadows on both colored and white surfaces, to draw texture on a flat surface, and to think about composition. This project builds upon the lessons learned in Drawing A Small Object on White Paper

To complete this project gather these things together:

  1. A small sheet of white paper to include the composition.
  2. One small object of your choice (darker than the white paper).
  3. Either a full sheet of 14" x 17" white drawing paper, or a 1/4 sheet of BFK Rives (11" x 15").
  4. Your pastels.
  5. Eraser.
  6. Tape.
  7. Drawing board.
  8. Wet paper towel (for cleaning hands).
  9. An interesting textured surface for your set-up.
