Boston University is an independent, coeducational, and nonsectarian internationally recognized institution of higher education and research. It is the third-largest independent institution of higher education in the United States. Located along the banks of the Charles River in the historic Back Bay section of Boston, Boston University remains dedicated to excellence in faculty, students, and facilities in the heart of one of the world's great cities. The University serves the academic and research needs of over 25,000 students and over 2,600 faculty. The student body represents all fifty states and more than 135 foreign countries. Full-time undergraduate students are divided evenly between male and female students. When I left in 1993, yearly tuition (i.e., not including room and board) was over $16,000.
