Photos in a Horizontal Strip

This technique for displaying images does not require any advanced Photoshop techniques, instead it focuses on selecting effective images and arranging them in a way that works for your layout. I have included 2 photo strip arrangements. There are no step by step instructions, instead a brief description of how the effect was achieved is included.

This horizontal photo strip has a uniform shape for each image. All images are cropped to the same size and then stroked in a single pixel maroon. Boxes with text are interspersed among the photos.

This layout has a staggered arrangement of images and color blocks. Note that some of the images are non-descript shapes (tree limbs, keyboard, and side of a building) which provide contrast to the images of people. Using photos in grayscale or duotone can also help unify the look.

If you would like to create a similar collage here are some instructions that will help:

    resizing images

    cropping

    convert a photo to grayscale

    doutone photos

You will also need to create color blocks on separate layers and b prepared to move them around and alter their color. I recommend at least one of the colors be a neutral, in this example I have used both gray and black. Here are the images in grayscale

Now duotoned in gold

Let's try a duotoned in maroon

Finally a duotone of blue

Here is the same collage with the photos in full color, as you can see, they create a busy collage that is unattractive. KEEP THE COLOR SCHEME SIMPLE.
