Slide Show Shortcut - Animation Lesson

Here's a shortcut for creating a slide show animation: Put all the images you'd like to use in a single folder and make sure they are the same size (width and height in pixels).

Launch ImageReady and Choose File > Import > Folder As Frames

Next a dialog box will appear asking you to select the folder or directory which contains the images. Locate the directory and select "Choose".

After selecting the "slide show" directory, ImageReady placed all the images within that directory into a simple animation. The files are placed alphabetically, so either name the files carefully, or be prepared to rearrange the frames later. Including a number at the beginning of the file name insures that the files will be placed correctly.

I choose several logo examples as a demonstration of this shortcut. I opened each file first to make sure they were all the same size. Some of my logo examples did not make it to the slide show, because they were too big or too small.

Here is the animation after the Import command.

The delay time is set to '0 sec' and I want to change that. Choose Select All from the side menu of the Animation palette and then click on the delay time listed below one of the frames to alter the delay time for all frames. I choose 2 seconds.

.

Now it is time to run the animation, set the loop, and finally File > Save Optimized As.

Here is the slide show animation.

Animations created in ImageReady have to be saved as GIF files, because JPEG doesn't support animation. I choose the logos because they will compress well as GIFs.

If my slide show was composed of photographs that compress best as JPEGs you can save your animation as a QuickTime movie. Choose File > Export Original and choose Quicktime Movie from the Format menu.

Special Note - Your instructors do not expect you to create a slide show animation or a quicktime movie. This page contains an Advanced Tip which goes above and beyond the course material. Don't try this until your required homework is done.
