Description of Organization: The Sonoma Humane Society has a long and proud history of leading the fight to end overpopulation and rescue, rehabilitate and place thousands of animals into loving homes. Founded in 1931, we are non-profit, charitable organization funded by donations. In 2004, with donation support, we opened a state of the art animal shelter and non-profit veterinary hospital which helps both homeless animals and pets of people in our community.

Approximately how many pages do you think you will need? More of a refresh of some existing pages and maybe five or so new pages, including a secure form to register for classes, etc.
Do you have any URLs for existing web sites that you really like and would want to use as a model for your site, list them and tell us what you like about them (optional question) http://www.bestfriends.org/ I like the branding, colors and organization of articles, updates, etc. http://www.humanesociety.org/ I like the clean-ness of the site, the simplicity, but not enough heartwarming stories or photos http://www.oregonhumane.org/ I like the look of this site, not the cartoon characters, but the overall look. I also like that on the adoptable animal pages you can also SPONSOR AN ANIMAL with a donation
Any additional information you would like to share? I would like to refresh our current site to have an easy to use homepage that's clean and modern yet heartwarming. I would like to have easier navigation, and the ability to promote various events, happenings, special campaigns, etc. on our homepage. I would also like to include a survey question each week on the homepage. It would also be great to have a feature for people to ask questions or look up information and to add some of our pet tips to the site, similar to the one at http://www.aspcabehavior.org/ Additional features on my wish list are: a live web cam for our puppy and kitten rooms, a registration page for training classes, an automated email thank you response for donations, drop down menus on every page, and the list goes on. ---------

AIA Redwood Empire:
Description of Organization: AIA(American Institute of Architects) is a national non-profit organization for Architects. The AIARE is a local chapter of the national association. We provide continuing education opportunities for architects, engineers, designers and builders. We are a resource for the community. Our leadership attends city council meetings, planning meetings and helps local city officials design and develop a city vision that will be beneficial to the community. For example, we were heavily involved in the downtown Santa Rosa redevelopment project called "City Vision" which was helping to redesign and connect downtown Santa Rosa to the Railroad Square project. We worked with the Town of Windsor and Healdsburg to create a sustainable design for their communities. This is done at no cost to the cities we serve. We invite leading architects from across the country to present their works to our community members in the form of a lecture series. Currently we are also working with the SRJC in helping to create their new architectural transfer program. We are working on creating a mentor program for their students to work with local architects. We have a yearly scholarship that we give to students transferring or attending a three to four year architectural program, hoping that they will return and serve the Redwood Empire area when they are finished with their school.
Website Goals: To create a visually appealing, user friendly resource tool for the architects and community.

Approximately how many pages do you think you will need?
Many! I have started working on the story board which currently has about 12 main pages with about three sub pages in each section. Some of this could probably be combined and condensed with a little guidance.
Do you have any URLs for existing web sites that you really like and would
want to use as a model for your site, list them and tell us what you like
about them (optional question):
I would like to somehow be consistent with the look and feel of the National website which is www.AIA.org, but think their site too is a little difficult to manipulate.
Any additional information you would like to share?
I have been given info recently that shows that our site is visited many many times per day, however, I do not think the visitors are finding the site as a valuable resource. I would like to make is a resource tool that members and the community will want to bookmark as a reference guide for their regular use.
Thank you for your consideration of this project. I look forward to hearing from you and working with a team of talented students.

We are very excited about this great opportunity!
Computer Studies Department:
Description of Organization: This project has 2 parts:
1: video editing
We have 20 interviews with former students who are working in industry. A few of them have been edited to include, titles, music, b roll footage, transitions, etc. Most of them have just had rough eidts done where the mistakes were taken out but the other items are not yet in.
To see an edited movie access -
http://www.santarosa.edu/cis/promo/interviews
select the devlin martensen link
To see an unedited interview select craig palmer
the second part of the project is to film the class as it unfolds, I would like you to film a team meeting, a client meeting, film our guest speakers, video the proposal meeting, the production meetings between designers and content developers, final exam, client feedback, etc. You will simply shoot the video fotage, you are not responsible for editing. The school has a camera you can borrow as needed.
Website Goals: To provide students and employers with information about what our students are now doing with their computer skills. These videos will be placed on a promotional DVD and the CS department web site.
Current Site: http://www.santarosa.edu/cis
The site is currently being remodeled by the PR department, it will have a similar look as the remodel is completed.
Additional Comments: We don't want pages, we want videos.
We have 20 student interviews I think that will keep you busy. The Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health:
Description of Organization: The organization is a 501(c)(3) educational and scientific association to further understanding and research in all areas related to the unborn child’s physical, intellectual, and emotional development; and the impact of the birth experience on future development. The Association provides information about the developing field of birth psychology to the general public and to a variety of professionals by publishing a quarterly Journal and Newsletter, holding international and regional conferences, and through its website. The work of the organization is carried out by a team of volunteers, with the support of one employee who serves as Executive Director.
Website Goals: - to redesign home page from a crowded Table of Contents, to a landing page of major links and news features that start on homepage and continue elsewhere;
-- create a functional navigation system that is user-friendly
-- integrate the existing shopping cart so that it works for the whole site
-- develop greater visual appeal – photos/images, strengthen existing color scheme
-- create database system for conference recordings – we have the information in FileMaker Pro and Excel
-- provide a user-friendly editing system so that pages may be updated/added from a Mac or PC

Creation of PDFs which are placed on the Web: Need to review, we have used pdfs on the website
curently 100 pages at site - note from teacher, we will not be doing 100 pages
Right now the website has two distinct areas that were developed at different times – one is a general public access area and the other is a members-only area. The members-only area is a more recent addition and the two areas operate on different ‘frameworks’ (I have been told that this undermines the functionality of the website).
Finally, Board Members have an extensive ‘wish list’ that may be beyond the scope of the Web Design Project. I include the wish-list below just in case they are possibilities:
-- Set up electronics for educational or training experiences via CD, DVD, podcasts, etc, or for live chats; we would like to have flexibility to offer these free to the public, or free to members, or at some cost.
-- We would like to be able to offer articles from the Journal to the public for purchase. To date we have published and electronically digitized 23 volumes (each has 4 issues), and this will be ongoing. I have heard of a software that permits a reader to look at the first page of an article for free; to get the whole article, they pay a fee through a cart.
-- We have an indexing problem: At the moment we have a bookstore that is connected directly with Amazon; i.e., each book is individually coded to link APPPAH and Amazon. (No cart is needed for this since Amazon handles inventory, sales, and shipping.) Where we fall short is having an index (literally a number from I-V) which would tells the seeker where to locate the book.
The RainTree Initiative:
Description of Organization: The RainTree Initiative (RTI) is a 501(c)(3) public charity that builds human intellectual and technical capacity in various environmental disciplines in developing countries by partnering with U.S universities. RTI develops collaborative agreements with universities offering masters-level programs in environmental policy, health and engineering, natural resource and energy management, forestry management and policy, and other disciplines with direct impact on the environment, provides the necessary electronic and physical infrastructure, and other resources with which to facilitate the educational activities of its Student Fellows originating from and residing in developing economies, and establishes the financial sourcing relationships with which to provide adequate funding streams necessary to support these activities.
Website Goals: Mission Statement: The RainTree Initiative seeks to build human intellectual and technical capacity, influence program and policy development, and devise and implement collaborative for-profit projects for sustainable environmental progress in developing economies to create positive global outcomes.
Graduate level distance learning programs are transmitted over the Internet by RTI university partners to promising young environmental leaders residing in their home countries to provide them with the resources necessary to take up important technical, managerial and policy work in their countries and regions. The RainTree Initiative has as its long-range goal the creation of an interconnected and interactive corps of environmental leadership to constructively influence the course of global environmental practices and policies in the future for the good of all inhabitants of our Earth.
As RTI Student Fellows finish their distance learning programs, The RainTree Initiative will engage in for-profit projects by contracting with governments and business to perform environmental preservation and remediation, thus providing RTI Student Fellows with opportunities to gain experience and RTI Graduate Fellows with career entry pathways to gain experience and develop professionally. For-profit RTI activities will provide an income stream to create the financial sustainability necessary to ensure continuing the educational programs.
The RainTree Initiative will facilitate an ongoing conversation between RTI Student Fellows and RTI Graduate Fellows through its website and by the sponsorship of regional and global workshops and conferences with which to encourage the exchange of ideas, technical information and best practices, and the implementation of innovative policy approaches. This advocacy speaks to the long-term mission of The RainTree Initiative; an initiative to influence environmental outcomes by creating connected and interactive intellectual and technical capacity at the local and regional levels on a global scale in developing economies where there exists a scarcity of expertise and talent to address environmental issues. The RainTree Initiative benefits our planet by cultivating people.

http://www.ashoka.org/
As you will discern, this well-designed website successfully communicates the Ashoka mission and provides a sense of hope as it positively and effectively articulates the activities the organization supports. It provides the visitor with a great many resources to appreciate and understand Ashoka’s purpose, and tastefully presents the opportunity and motivation to support that purpose through contributions and advocacy.
Any additional information you would like to share?
I understand the RTI mission very well. However, I am not sure I understand how to communicate it effectively by appealing to the intellect, instinct and emotions of the web visitor. Therefore, I will appreciate inputs that address this aspect of the design process, as well as the expertise to overcome the technical challenges of making the final product truly interactive for both the casual visitor and our Student/Graduate Fellows and other RTI affiliates.
