SRJC Puente Project - Strategic Brief

Overview:
The Puente Project is a program co-sponsored by the University of California and California Community Colleges. It’s prime directive is to steer non-traditional college bound students toward a four-year program. Puente’s mission statement is to increase the number of such students who enroll in four-year colleges and universities, earn college degrees and return to the community as mentors and leaders of future generations. The program includes 31 high schools and 54 community college statewide. It received the prestigious Innovations in American Government award in 1998. Puente is opened to all students.

Project Objectives:
The objective of this website is to recognize the Santa Rosa Junior College Puente Program, it’s students, alumni, mentors and corporate sponsors. The client’s goal is to solicit prospective parties in all areas of involvement by providing pertinent information and provide a means of communication for alumni, mentor to update their growth.

Tone and Message:
The client’s request is to design an attract site which would appeal to students, parents, community leaders, and corporations. The client requested a pictorial collage of the classes and event activities which students participated in throughout the year. The client’s approach is to provide a representation of the program’s positive involvement for the students while enrolled in this program.

Target Audience:
The skill level of the target audience is broad – parent, high-school/community college student, local business individuals and corporate leaders. The client desired a colorful site which would both appealing, informative while conveying the seriousness of an educational institution.

In essence this site is an electronic yearbook/datebook of the year in review, in progress. The navigational system follows the “KISS” method of design. It is extremely simple and straightforward. The navigational system with rollovers will feature a drop down explanation of each link for further clarification.

Goals for measuring success:
1. Recognize student achievement
2. Recognize alumni and mentors support
3. Recognize corporate sponsors
4. Seek prospective students, mentors, and corporate financial support
5. Produce an attractive site
6. Showcase program self-perpetuating
7. Provide information/communication between mentor and alumni with program coordinators
8. Provide information to the general public and inform those public without knowledge
