CLASS MILESTONES

- CD prepares for 50% of content deadline
PM - TO DO LIST
- Review the goals for the first meeting and determine which goals were met. Send instructor an email with the list of goals, next to each goal list either the word completed, or describe what was done, what needs to be done, who will do it and the deadline for meeting the goal.
Classify your group into one of two categories:
1. on track, met most of our goals and can meet remaining goals with email or short meetings with individual team members
2. second meeting needed, many of the goals not met, client was not prepared or not clear on their responsibilities. If your group fits into this category, please schedule another meeting for this week - the instructor will attend this meeting. If your team falls into this category, please do not feel embarrassed or worry about your grade. A team who gives me an honest evaluation of the first meeting and asks for help to hold a more productive second meeting will receive full credit for this portion of the class, a team who falsely report that everything is OK, will have points deducted.
- Create an index.html page for the "project site". This page may only link to the "contact.html' page mentioned last week. I would like you to create this page as a start to the eventual project site. As members of your team develop parts of the proposal link to their pages or have them send your their info and make it a page at your project site. samples of project sites are found here?? Send your instructor the URL of the index page for your project site - class milestone.
- After meeting with the client begin to develop the Strategic Brief, base this on the "content planning packet and any additional information shared by the client at the first meeting.
- Begin the "workflow plan".
- Encourage team to communicate, send out 2-3 email messages per week. Strike a supportive, upbeat tone.
DES - TO DO LIST
- Respond to all team email
- If the team decides that a second meeting with the client is needed to accomplish the "first meeting goals" participate in that meeting
- begin creating the design, for some of you that will happen in Photoshop, others will use a template from a CMS. If you are using a CMS you can still work in Photoshop just take a screen shot of the template and then make changes as needed.
- If you need to meet with the client to discuss design issues, set up a meeting, the IMD should either attend or be given a detailed description of design decisions. Send the entire team a summary of meeting.
- Develop a flowchart of how the site will look, when you have the first draft done, send a note to the team to get their feedback. Once the team agrees, send it to the client to get their input.
IMD - TO DO LIST
- Respond to all team email
- If the team decides that a second meeting with the client is needed to accomplish the "first meeting goals" participate in that meeting
- Work with the designer to determine how your elements fit into their design.
- If you need to hold an additional meeting with the client, set that up. If the designer should attend then invite them, if they do not attend, send them a detailed description of what was discussed and decided. Send a summary of the meeting to your team.
- Begin working on your multimedia elements. If this requires gathering images, shooting video, or learning how to do something in Flash, start doing that. If the client has asked for a header that cycles through 5-7 images and you do not yet have the images, you can make a mock up of this element using stock art. This can be shown to the client for their approval, once you have the actual images they can be substituted. My concern is that if you promise a slideshow header, you practice making it as soon as possible.
PROGRAMMER - TO DO LIST

- If the team decides that a second meeting with the client is needed to accomplish the "first meeting goals" participate in that meeting
- If you need to hold an additional meeting with the client, set that up. Send a summary of the meeting to your team.
- Begin working on the technical brief.
- If the client requested help with an ISP or Domain name, start your research. Keep your team informed.
- Begin working on your programming elements. This may require you to search for existing code, research database options, or join a programming discussion board. Even if you do not yet have all the data you need, you can make a mock up of the programming elements you will be producing. Let's say you will be using a form to write to a SQL database, and then displaying that data on the web. Even if you don't have the form questions, the database fields or a ample of what the output should look like, you can begin working.
Create a sample form with just 2-3 questions, set up a SQL database on the student server, and then crete code that will retrieve the sample data and display it on a web page. This process will take several weeks, I am suggesting you begin now. If you don't have what you need to begin this process, send the client an email or meet with them to iron out the issues.
CD - TO DO LIST
- Respond to all team email
- If the team decides that a second meeting with the client is needed to accomplish the "first meeting goals" participate in that meeting
- Once a flowchart of web pages is established, create the "content status document".
- Analyze content:
Content will fall into 3 categories
1: new content
2: existing content that will be used as is
3: existing content that will be edited or rearranged
Begin to place the content into a shell site and modify the content status document to reflect what you have.
- If you have questions about the content, send your client an email or meet with them to iron out any confusion, keep your team informed about discussions with the client.
- Working with your team develop a plan for the production standards, will there be sub folders? Will you use SSI code or library items in Dreamweaver? If you are working on a CMS this step will not follow the models from previous semesters, instead spend your time learning all you can about the CMS and how it is used to make pages.
- Begin to create a list of deliverables. Create a web page with your "best guess" regarding what the deliverables will be, then send this URL to the entire team so they can make modifications and changes. If you have no idea what the multimedia or programming elements are, just send your teammates a note.
- If you have the time, you may want to either study for the HTML exam, or research the SEO and social networking lessons. The work load for CDs varies from team to team, if you are waiting for content, or feel you have nothing to do the 3 tasks listed above are always good options.

- When 50% of the content is in, the PM sends the instructor an email
DES - TO DO LIST
- Respond to all team email
- Work on the comp, some designers show the comp to the team and instructor right away, others work on it alone until they think it is just right. I recommend the early showing system however it is up to you.
- Sign up for a time slot to review the comp with the instructor, see if you and the IMD can meet in back to back time slots.
- Keep up communication with the IMD. If they are creating an element that will be on the home page and it is not done, just create a placeholder image for that item.
- Feel free to show the client the comp as it develops, again this is a personal style issue however if you have god communication with the client you may want to get their feedback sooner rather than later.
- Make any adjustments to the flowchart/storyboard that are required as the team and client refine the plan for the site.

- If you have the time, you may want to either study for the HTML exam, or research the SEO and social networking lessons. The work load for CDs varies from team to team, if you are waiting for content, or feel you have nothing to do the 3 tasks listed above are always good options.
