Assignments

All assignments are submitted using online forms. After you publish your pages on the Web, thy will be viewed and graded online. If you cannot make these forms work, send your instructor an email at lhemenway@santarosa.edu with your full name, section number, and answers to the questions on the form.

NO email attachments, please.

Deadline dates are midnight Pacific Standard Time. Late work will only be accepted one week after Deadline date, and a 20% deduction will be imposed. Late work will not be graded unless student sends instructor an email asking them to grade late work.

The purpose of this assignment is to create a unique username and password, which you will use every time you check on your grade or post a homework assignment. Write these values down so you will remember them all semester.

Greetings & gradebook online form 6-23 10 meet class

By completing the greetings and gradebook assignment, you accomplish three goals: (1) You register yourself in the online gradebook. (2) You add your email address to the class mailing list so you can receive email from your instructor each week. (3) You introduce yourself to your classmates so we can all get to know each other.

Critique templates post to message board 6-26 10 review responses

Visit the class message board and access the "critique templates" section. Explain in 50 words or less why you cohsoe the template that you did. List it's strengths and areas you plan to change.

Locate a Web browser on your local computer, if you do not have one, download and install one.

Download FTP software - SSH Client (win) Fugu (mac). Install it on your local computer.

If you do not already have one, request an account on the "student" web server.

Purchase and install Photoshop Elements or Photoshop CS2

Visit the W3C validator located at - http://validator.w3.org/

Once your pages have passed at the validator, add code for the XHTML 1.0 validator icon so I can validate the HTML for your page [05 pts].

Create a web page which has an inline style that sets the background color for each of the <div> tags in your template. Name the file "div-color.html" [05pts].

Click on the "post to message board" link and write up a critique of the site you are assigned. List the strengths of the site, the overall impression made by the colors and photos, and suggestions for improvement. To determine who you will critique, click on the student work link, find your name, and critique the person who is listed below you. The first person to turn in this assignment can critique anyone else in the class.

Create a Web page for every "second level" link at your site. In the examples of my garden site, I would need pages for the following categories: family, perennials, shrubs, trees, succulents, links, and contact. [30pts]

Post message to board
After completing your Web site, post your URL at the class web page. Locate the person whose name is below yours and crituque their site. List the strengths of the site, the overall impression made by the colors, photos, layout, etc. Also include any suggestions for improvements you may have. Finally view the site in at least 3 browsers ((IE for PC, Firefox, and Netscape for example). report any changes in the appearance of the site when you go from browser to browser, if you have a problem locating 3 browsers, feel free to use the labs at the Santa Rosa and Petaluma campuses..
