Highlights of the 1997-98 FHL Season

  • MANIACS OWNER IN HOSPITAL:

Phoenix- Hullsego Maniacs owner Chris Bebermeyer was adiministered to a local Phoenix hospital after suffering a massive heart attack last night. Apparently, the attack occured after recieving a notice from the FHL office that one of his players, a Bobby Holik, was named 2nd star of the week. According to a team spokesman, the reason for the shock was because none of the team's players are apparently "worth a damn" and the "shock stunned him to the point of cardiac arrest." Bebermeyer should make a full recovery, and team doctors say there is no reason to expect any performances from the team for the rest of the season.
  • CELEBRATION CUT SHORT DUE TO ILLNESS

Millersville (AP) - Chico's Bar & Grill of Millersville's FHL Championship celebration was cut short early Wednesday morning. The team's GM, Matt "Chico" DiBerardino, was forced to return to the Philadelphia area due to an unknown illness.

Although there is no official word on his condition, it is believed to be a combination of sun poisoning and dehydration that was suffered on Sunday afternoon as DiBerardino attended the Tibetan Freedom Festival in Washington, D.C.

Chico was not in attendance at either Games 3 or 4. He missed game three due to being in Baltimore, getting ready to go to D.C. on Sunday morning. Last night's game was missed due to the illness, which he's been suffering from all week.

The players came up with a big victory in game four, to come from behind to take the Championship, for their stricken GM. "We wanted to win this one for him," said playoff captain Calle Johannson. "He'd be the first to help a fallen comrade."

"He is an all around swell guy. He knew how to motivate us throughout the playoffs," said Joe Juneau.

DiBerardino will be in the Philly area for the next couple of days. Until he returns, the Bar & Grill will be closed, and the celebration and parade down North George Street in Millersville will wait until his return.
