1) GENERAL
A term report six to eight pages in length covering some contemporary issue
or area of natural resource conservation will be due near the end of the
semester (July 18; see below, and first page of outline under "Requirements").
2) REPORT FORMAT
As a minimum the report will consist of a title page, body (introduction,
discussion, conclusion), and bibliography. IT IS THE BODY OF THE REPORT
THAT MUST BE SIX TO EIGHT PAGES IN LENGTH (at least 1500 words). The bibliography
must contain at least five sources, and it, along with rest of the report,
must conform to a generally accepted research report format (consult the
MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers or other appropriate style manual).
The report must be typed and double-spaced. Footnotes/citations are required
and must be properly documented in your paper.
It is important that your paper represent an accumulation of accurate, up-to-date
information that completely covers the topic. Hence, you should rely upon
pertinent reference books, periodicals, journals, magazines, newspaper articles,
videos and personal interviews for your information sources.
The following items are not acceptable bibliographic sources: Dictionaries,
encyclopedia, World Book annuals, Reader's Digest, Time-Life Nature Series,
or other similar publications. If you have a question regarding the suitablility
of an item, please ask.
3) GRADING
A maximum of 100 points will be offered. Fifty percent of the grade will
reflect an evaluation of the subject matter content of the report. The
other fifty percent will cover the grammar, spelling and structure.
4) DUE DATES
The subject matter/topic must be submitted to the instructor on or before
June 28. Only a limited number of students will be assigned a given topic.
Therefore, if you have an interest in a subject, confirm it with your instructor
early in the semester. Significant point discounts will be incurred for
violation of this date.
The final report is due on or before 5 PM, Monday, July 15. No late reports
will be accepted. Reports will not be accepted if the topic has not been
approved
