Dear Theatre Lovers:

We have listened to your requests and we are proud to offer four family-friendly shows including two musicals this season: the world’s most popular musical The Sound of Music, Shakespeare’s bloody tragedy Macbeth, the powerful story of Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker, and the always sassy musical Guys and Dolls. We open our season in October with our one adults-only show, Our Lady of 121st Street. Our hope is that you will also give this raucously funny and emotionally charged hip new play a chance. It might just rock your world.

We feel so lucky to be making theatre in beautiful and diverse Sonoma County. We value you, our smart and savvy theatre patrons. We are grateful for your continuing support. Please come help us celebrate our talented student actors, our visionary designers, and all the hard-working, dedicated crewmembers. We couldn’t do it without you.

The Ortiz Funeral Room is in big trouble! The body of beloved teacher Sister Rose has been stolen from the viewing room just before her wake. While “New York’s Finest” investigate, an oddball assortment of her former students gather, struggling to find a place to put their grief, checkered pasts, and their uncertain futures. Raw, gritty and raucously funny (definitely rated R), yet surprisingly touching, spiritual, and insightful, this scorching comedy by one of today’s hottest U.S. playwrights takes you on a wild taxi ride driven by characters you will never forget.

Macbeth - Photograph by David Fisher

Macbeth
By William Shakespeare

Directed by John Shillington

“Something wicked this way comes,” rightly warns a witch in Shakespeare’s haunting tale of power-lust, betrayal, and murder that has captivated audiences for 400 years. Bloody visions, chilling prophesies, and vengeance-seeking ghosts form a swirling nightmare around Macbeth and his wife as their driving ambition spirals out of control. Theatre Arts is particularly excited to offer this intriguing theatrical experience in an intimate setting, with a spare and evocative production focusing on the intricacies of character and language.

Recommended for middle school age and above. Contains complex language and stylized violence.

The Miracle Worker

The Miracle Worker
By William Gibson

Directed by Laura Downing-Lee

This treasured theatrical classic is inspired by the remarkable story of Helen Keller–the brilliant child shut off from the world after a devastating fever leaves her deaf and blind, and Annie Sullivan–the nearly blind young woman who becomes her teacher. Told with exquisite simplicity, The Miracle Worker touches universal chords as it explores the essence of human communication and connection. Set in Alabama in the 1880s, this timeless gem is as profoundly moving and thought-provoking today as it was at its premiere 50 years ago.

Recommended for age 10 and above.

Guys and Dolls
Based on a story and characters by Damon Runyon
Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser
Book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows

Directed by Wendy Wisely                   Choreography by Lara Branen

A sure bet with audiences for nearly 60 years, this hilarious romantic comedy rolls onto the streets (and sewers!) of a mythical New York City only Damon Runyon could invent. With its “royal flush” of unique inhabitants including high-rolling gamblers, sassy nightclub performers and uptight Salvation Army reformers, Guys and Dolls deals a winning hand of implausible relationships and crazy plot twists. Loaded with fabulous songs and a wonderful script, this show is guaranteed to “rock the boat” with laughter and cheers!

Recommended for middle school age and above. Contains sexy choreography and light adult humor.
