Our Sustainable Mission

The mission of Sustainable SRJC is to encourage green practices and programs that improve the health and quality of the life of our college community, while restoring and protecting our natural resources and strengthening our regional economy. If Our Colors Weren't Red and Blue, They'd Be Green!

If Santa Rosa Junior College’s official school colors weren’t red and blue, they’d be many shades of green. Close examination of SRJC’s conservation measures and energy management approach for more than four decades reflects a college community with a zealous dedication to environmental protection and a green culture, a “Sustainable SRJC!”

The SRJC community has long understood the importance of forging a vision of education that combines our instructional programs with sustainability principles. As one of the largest employers in Sonoma County, with nearly 3,000 faculty and staff and more than 33,000 students enrolled each semester, SRJC is a major consumer of energy with conservation efforts that include recycling approximately 75 percent of its solid waste. Socially responsible, SRJC saves taxpayers money by applying many energy-saving programs and features that are outlined on this Sustainable SRJC site. We hope that you will explore the site to discover some examples of green activities that make it possible to improve SRJC and the communities we serve, the North Bay Region, our nation, and world.
