The Fall 2008 Professional Development Activity Day is Friday, August 15, 2008. 

The Flex Program continues for the 2008-09 academic year. Please refer to the AFA website at http://www.santarosa.edu/afa/tentative_agreement.shtml for the original Tentative Agreement or for more information.

See below for basic guidelines regarding flex obligations for faculty.

A. Regular Faculty:
• 12 mandatory hours per academic year (two institutional days on 8/15/2008 & 2/12/2009). There will be no “make up” for these hours.
• 12 flexible hours - flex activities to be performed and verified between July 1, 2008 and May 1, 2009.
• Go to http://www.santarosa.edu/flex to “Check Your Flex” obligation and monitor your flex account status on a regular basis.

B. Adjunct Faculty (includes Non-Credit, Unit A):
• Your flex obligation for Fall 2008 is the total number of hours you are scheduled to teach on Wednesday and Friday full semester-length classes.
Go to http://www.santarosa.edu/flex to “Check Your Flex” obligation and monitor your flex account status on a regular basis.
• Adjunct Faculty will be able to fulfill their obligation on the institutional day or through flex activities that take place during the semester in which they teach. Flex credit can be earned for pre-approved activities that take place during summer (beginning on July 1) for the fall semester or beginning during winter break for the spring semester. Please note: Adjunct faculty run the risk of not being paid for flex hours completed in advance of the semester, if a change to their teaching schedule results in a change (decrease) to their flex obligation.
C. Flex credit is available for pre-approved staff development activities only.

Professional Development Activity (PDA) Days

The program for PDA Days is developed by a shared governance committee (the Professional Development Committee or PDC) consisting of faculty, classified, and management staff. PDA Day consists of a general session and workshops conducted by SRJC faculty and staff or possibly off-campus presenters. Speakers and workshops are sought out and selected on the basis of their relevance to the professional and institutional needs of the SRJC community. Evaluations are collected for all sessions and used in determining future program offerings.

One day each semester is designated as the Institutional Day. Attendance on this day is mandatory for all regular faculty and may not be flexed. Limited services to students and the general public are provided that day to enable as many classified and management staff as possible to attend. The program for the fall semester Institutional Day includes an address from the College President, as well as the Academic Senate and Classified Senate Presidents. The spring semester Institutional Day features the Brook Tauzer Faculty Lecture. The lecturer is an SRJC faculty member who is selected for teaching excellence by a committee consisting of former Tauzer Lecturers. Both the fall and spring Institutional Days also offer workshops related to institutional themes and the training needs of the faculty and staff.
