| BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Board of Trustees is the governing board
of the Sonoma County Junior College District. The Board consists
of seven members elected by the qualified voters of the Trustee
Areas of the District. The term of office is four years. A student
trustee is elected by the students each year for a term of one
year. The Board concerns itself primarily with questions of policy
rather than with administrative details of the District. The
Board meets on a regular monthly basis currently on the second
Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. (subject to change). Meetings
are open to interested SRJC faculty and staff and to the public.
The Superintendent of
the College acts as the Secretary of the Board. As Secretary,
the Superintendent prepares
the Board agenda in consultation with the President of the Board
and prepares the Board minutes. To confirm Board meeting times
or to submit an item for the Board Agenda, call the President’s
office at 707-527-4431. The Board Agenda is posted in Bailey
Hall, outside Bailey Hall, outside Pedroncelli Center, in the
libraries at the Petaluma and Santa Rosa campuses, as well as the Public Safety Training Center. The names and addresses of

Purpose
The Academic Senate at Santa Rosa Junior College was established in accordance with state laws which allow faculty to create academic senates to participate in the collegial governance of the college. Academic senates have the right to advise local governing boards about academic and professional matters. The Academic Senate has primary responsibility for advising the Board of Trustees about academic matters such as curriculum, general education requirements, or grading standards. With the Administration, it has a major responsibility for the faculty hiring process and for institutional planning.
Composition Presently the Academic Senate is made up of twenty-eight Senators, consisting of twenty-six designated area representatives, and two officers. Elections normally take place in the spring semester for service the following academic year. The term of office is two years. The electorate of the Senate consists of all regular faculty who teach 60% or greater and adjunct faculty teaching 40% or more will be members of the adjunct electorate. A list of senators and the areas they represent is distributed in the fall semester. Designated areas of representation include:
Areas with One Senator Engineering/Physics, Applied Technology, Electronics, Physical Education, Industrial/ Trade Technology, Agriculture, Health Sciences, Administration of Justice, Criminal Training Center, Petaluma
Areas with Two Senators

Committee System
Much of the work of the Senate is done through Senate and College-wide committees. The Academic Senate has the primary responsibility for appointing faculty to District committees. A list of committees and their functions is distributed each year. At the end of the spring semester, faculty have an opportunity to sign up for committees for the following year. In addition, announcements about committee openings are sent out as the need arises throughout the year. For further information about committee service, contact the Academic Senate office (527-4595).
State-wide Representation
The Academic Senate at SRJC is a member of the state organization, Academic Senate for California Community Colleges. Through this organization, the Academic Senate keeps SRJC faculty informed about changes in state laws and regulations which affect faculty. The bi-annual legislative session of the state-wide senate provides SRJC faculty with an opportunity to change state regulations and policies.
Meetings
The Academic Senate meets the first, and third Wednesday of each month during the academic year, from 3:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Senate Chambers, Doyle Student Center. All faculty members are welcome to attend.
