After a review of possible candidates to perform the desk auditing, Local 707 has proposed that Mr. Tom Drumm be retained by the District and Union. The Union wants an objective analysis to be performed during the next few months.
The District has not yet responded to our proposed fact finder; nor has the district made any alternative suggestions for a neutral fact finder.
As soon as the Union and the District have selected a candidate the
desk audits can begin.
We will be holding elections for
four negotiators later in the month of February. All classified employees who
are SEIU members at the time of the election may vote.
So far, Jeff Holzworth has
indicated an interest in staying on the team; John Hemenway and Shirley Davis
have agreed to run for seats on the team. Two others who had earlier expressed
an interest in serving find they are no longer able to make that commitment. We
need a minimum of one more person to serve, and it would be great if members
could choose among a number of their co-workers to represent them.
Reopeners will include Pay and
Allowances, reclassification of those who were Z-rated in the Classification
Study, and one item we haven't yet identified.
All of us have heard or expressed strong opinions about
negotiations. Now is the time to step forward and put those opinions to the test
of action. Please look around your workplace and identify someone with strong
opinions, energy, and the willingness to see his/her ideas through. Nominate
that person for a seat on the negotiations team by dropping a note in the SEIU
box in Bailey Hall. The Elections Committee will call the person you nominate
and determine his/her willingness.
Do it today!
The CAC is in the process of updating the bylaws of the
Santa Rosa Junior College Chapter of SEIU Local 707. Frank Job in Media Services
has put the current version of the bylaws on our website at http://www.santarosa.edu/seiu/.
Very soon the draft version of the new bylaws will also be posted on our
website. Please take the time to review the current and proposed bylaws and
submit any recommended changes to the CAC via email or the SEIU box in Baily
Hall.
The Calendar Committee has been asked to conduct a
campus-wide survey as to the placement of Spring Break.
Some people are concerned when Spring Break comes late in the semester
which may have a disruptive effect on student performance.
Others would prefer that Spring Break not be attached to the Christian
religious Easter holiday. Historically
SRJC's Spring Break has been attached to the Easter holiday to coincide with the
majority of K-12 schools in the area in an attempt to accommodate the faculty,
staff and students who may have children in the system and may experience child
care issues. Watch for the survey
which will take place during PDA and must be turned in by February 21, 2001 by
5:00pm. If this issue is important to you, be sure to voice your opinion!
