Why Study in Paris?

Paris is synonymous with high quality education and thousands of students throughout history have flocked there to study literature and the arts. It is also a haven for intellectuals, and the list of transplanted intellectuals who have made Paris home is impressive, including Americans Ernest Hemingway, John dos Passos, e.e. cummings, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Stephen Vincent Benet and Gertrude Stein.

To millions of people the beauty of Paris is never-ending –sw the Seine, the backdrop of roofs, domes, spires and towers, Sacre Coeur, I.M. Pei's starkly modern Pyramide du Louvre and incomparable views of some of the world's greatest art treasures.

Highlights of Paris

  • Open to students age 18 and older who have graduated from high school and have completed 12 units of college course work with a minimum 2.25 grade point average
  • Optional flight transportation package; accommodations in either a shared homestay with a French family (includes daily breakfast), in a shared apartment with a kitchen, or in a student residence (includes breakfast plus five weekly meals)
  • Take lower division courses that are transferable for Bachelor's degree credit
  • Program includes metro travel pass, an orientation program highlighted by a guided sightseeing tour of Paris by coach, and subsidized cultural activities such as walking tours, opera and ballet performances and soccer matches

Why Choose this Program?

This program is offered to enable students to study abroad while making normal progress toward their degree objectives, and earning fully transferable units in courses taught by community college faculty and guest lecturers. This program is offered in cooperation with several California community colleges and with the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS), which arranges transportation, living accommodations, and a wide range of student and instructional support services. Students need not be currently enrolled at one of the sponsoring colleges in order to participate. Units earned in Paris will appear on transcripts issued by the participating colleges.
