Professor Michele Camozzi

Michele Camozzi danced professionally for 10 years before accepting a full scholarship to study anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley. While studying anthropology Ms. Camozzi researched the cultural dynamics of the dance world and in 2006 published, "The Art of Perfection: A Look Inside the World of Pre-Professional Ballet Dancers" which appeared in the Kroeber Anthropological Society Papers. Michele's performing and teaching careers have taken her throughout the United States, Europe and to various destinations in Central and South America. Ms. Camozzi loves to share her passions of dance, travel and learning through teaching and is delighted to be an instructor at her alma mater, Santa Rosa Junior College.

Professor Jing Wu

Professor Wu holds twenty years of college level Mandarin Chinese teaching experience in the United States, as well as in China. She has a solid academic background in the Chinese language, literature, and culture. In her teaching career, Professor Wu explored effective Mandarin teaching methods and developed curricula for both classroom and online courses. She participated in the Foreign Language Project at Stanford University, and serves as a Chinese AP reader at ETS. Professor Wu enjoys teaching Mandarin Chinese at all levels. One of her strengths is the aptitude to passionately teach students not only the Chines language but also simultaneously incorporating both literature and culture in her curricula.

Descriptions of SRJC Classes

Dance 2 - Survey of Dance History
(Emphasizing Asian Artistic Expression and
Performance Art)

This course focuses on the history of dance in eastern and western civilizations. Following a brief study of dance in traditional cultures, students will survey dance history from ancient times to the 21st century, learning the significance of dance as ritual, social tradition, and art. We will compare dance to other forms of expression; additionally, we will examine the development of traditional dance, ballet, modern dance in several cultures, and contemporary eastern and western theatrical dance forms. The class is in China, so we will take advantage of opportunities to see first-hand examples of the rich Chinese dance tradition.

PE 49 - Independent Study in Chinese Life and Culture
An independent study of Chinese life and culture through organized field trips and cultural activities. This course provides students an opportunity to enrich their understanding of Chinese art and culture.

Colloquial Mandarin Chinese I, Elementary
(Emphasizing Oral Communication and Cultural Appreciation)
A beginning conversational Mandarin Chinese course. Extensive oral training in Mandarin. Emphasizes practical vocabulary, pronunciation, and idiomatic usage, with sufficient grammar to give flexibility to the spoken language. The phonetic system Pinyin is used to represent sounds in Mandarin and substitute for characters as a written form. Designed for students who wish to acquire basic skills of spoken Mandarin Chinese.
