Our Purpose
The purpose of International Education at Santa Rosa Junior College is to offer a variety of programs and services that will provide students, faculty, and the community at large with the knowledge, skills, and cultural experiences necessary to become well prepared members of a global society. Additionally, the international education programs at Santa Rosa Junior College promote and encourage the internationalization of the college by fostering mutual understanding, facilitating preparation of the world of work, and supporting lifelong learning through activities that provide opportunities for participation in the international community.

Santa Rosa Junior College conducts many of its Study Abroad programs with partners, to increase learning opportunities for our students:

  • Northern California Study Abroad Consortium - includes Contra Costa Community College District; Los Rios Community College District; San Mateo Community College District; and SRJC
  • American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) - primary logistical support for Study Abroad, an SRJC partner for over 20 years

Students take regular community college classes from professors in the consortium of four California community colleges: Santa Rosa Junior College, College of San Mateo, Diablo Valley College, and Cosumnes River College. Professors from those colleges apply and are selected to teach the same courses, obviously in English, that they teach at their respective colleges. All of the courses are transfer level courses so students make excellent progress toward their graduation and transfer goals.

The basic requirements to be accepted into the program are pretty simple: you must be a student in good academic standing with 12 college units, in non-performance classes, completed by the time you go abroad, and you need to have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 in your college classes. During the 13 week semester program, all students take 12 units in the Study Abroad program, a 3 unit Life and Culture class, one other SRJC class and then two other classes from the list of offerings. During the 5 week Summer programs, all students take 6-7 units in the Study Abroad program.
