Scholarships

There are five scholarships available to Fire Program Students. In the Fall, the Victor (Vic) A. Pozzi and Winfield Smith Scholarships are offered and in the Spring, the Chief Carl O. Heynen. Whereas the Women at Ground Zero and the Brian Fletcher Memorial Scholarship rotate between the Public Safety disciplines, it is available periodically. The criteria for these scholarships are as follows:

Chief Carl O. Heynen Memorial Scholarship

  • Minimum GPA: 3.00
  • Full-Time (enrolled in at least 12 units) Fire Tech or Paramedic Student
  • Amount of award(s): 5 totaling $1,500.00
  • Application deadline: Early Spring semester (specific date TBA)

Victor (Vic) A. Pozzi Scholarship

  • Minimum GPA: 2.50
  • A Full-time (enrolled in at least 12 units) Fire Tech Student
  • Preference to a Windsor High graduate
  • Amount of award: 1 totaling $500.00
  • Application deadline: Early Fall semester (specific date TBA)

Winfield Smith Memorial Firefighter Scholarship

  • Minimum GPA: 3.00
  • A Full-time (enrolled in at least 12 units) Fire Tech Student
  • Preference to Sonoma Valley Graduates
  • Amount of award: 1 totaling $450.00
  • Application deadline: Early Fall semester (specific date TBA)

Women at Ground Zero Scholarship

  • Minimum GPA: 2.5
  • Preference given to students enrolled in one of the Public Safety Academies
  • Amount of award: 4 at $400 apiece.

Brian Fletcher Memorial Scholarship

  • Minimum GPA: 2.5
  • For students enrolled in the Fire Academy
  • Must have completed at least 6 units at SRJC
  • Amount of award: one at $500

Application Procedures

To apply for any of the above scholarships, applicants must fully complete a SRJC Fire Technology/Fire Service Paramedic Scholarship Application. This includes the following sections:

  • A written essay detailing your education and career goals along with any relevant experience and activities (the essay must be witnessed and signed by an instructor or supervisor not related to you).
  • A list of any community service or other activities that are related to your major (i.e. CPR Instructor, Volunteer Firefighter, Red Cross Volunteer, etc.)
  • A Financial needs Analysis.
