Courses for Career Firefighters
In addition to the Fire Academies and course offerings for the degree and certificate programs, the Fire Technology Department provides education opportunities for individuals employed in the fire service. These "In-service" courses focus on those developed by the California Fire Service Training and Education System (CFSTES) and Fire Service Training and Education Program (FSTEP). Central to these offerings are the courses necessary to become certified as a Fire Officer which includes:

These represent the first of the three steps leading to the position of Certified Fire Chief which include: Certified Fire Officer, Certified Chief Officer and Certified Fire Chief. While in contrast to the seven certification steps in NFPA 1021, all tasks specified in this document are covered in the CFSTES.
In Addition to the courses, to assist local fire agencies meet DMV Driving requirements, the Fire Officer Program offers:
Driver Operator 1A and Driver Operator 1B
Unique to Santa Rosa Junior College is the use of the "SkidTruck" dirver training system made by Skidcar Systems. Of only a handful in the United States, the SkidTruck allows students in a safe environment to experience a variety of driving environments including what it is like to lose control of the apparatus.
