The third committee (e-LEARN), which focuses on communication and
education, is charged with raising the level of understanding about
student learning outcomes throughout the District. This group has focused
on developing the Project LEARN Web site, which iwent live in summer
2005. In addition, this group has conducted workshops and departmental
training discussions, and coordinated the student learning outcome
theme sessions at fall 2004 and spring 2005 PDA Days.
The e-LEARN Committee, co-chaired by Victor Cummings and Kimberlee
Messina, met once in both the spring and fall to begin planning its
activities. Since this committee is charged with communication and
education, the bulk of its work lies ahead when SRJC’s assessment
policies and implementation are developed. Currently, it is focused
on choosing the avenues of communication and the means of best orienting
the college community to the value and methods of outcomes assessment
for the purpose of improving instruction and increasing student success.
We expect that over the coming years, information and educational
activities in a variety of formats, electronic and print self-paced
tutorials and public forums, to name a few, will be offered to the
District community. A small group is involved with readying a Web site
for the assessment handbook as mentioned above.
Once details about the new flex approach to professional development
are finalized, e-LEARN will be creating online and on college training
opportunities, so that faculty members can fulfill their contractual
responsibilities in this area by increasing their knowledge of assessment
practices and specific techniques.
