c-LEARN, which focuses on course-level
learning outcomes, has been developing appropriate assessment policies
and procedures, and is acting as a mentoring body aiding faculty, departments
and programs in developing and implementing their own learning outcomes
assessment programs. In the 2004-2005 academic year, this group developed
an Assessment Handbook for SRJC faculty, and initiated a Learning Assessment
Plan (LAP) process whereby all academic departments were asked to identify
a course to be assessed in the 2005-2006 academic year.
c-LEARN has embraced two major
functions:
1) Produce policy and procedures for future course and program assessment
projects to ensure that all time, energy and resources that are invested
bear the fruit of good assessment practice and effective instructional
improvements that will enhance student success consistent with SRJC’s
mission. Members of this committee envision that most Project LEARN
guidelines will be disseminated electronically through SRJC’s
Web site, and that sufficient print material will be made available
as well.
2) Mentor and monitor course and program assessment projects from
their inception to the final assessment of instructional improvements.
