REPETITION OF COURSES
ADOPT: JANUARY 11, 2005
TITLE 5: 55760, 55761, 55762, 55763(a-b), 58161

This policy is applicable in any of the following cases:

  1. All courses taken at Santa Rosa Junior College for which substandard academic performance is recorded (D, F, NC), may be repeated once, and the substandard grade and credit will be disregarded in the computation of grade point averages. The permanent academic record shall be annotated in such a manner that all work remains legible, ensuring a true and complete academic history. Additional repeats for that same substandard graded course may be granted upon petition. Title 5, section 55760, 55761, 55762, 58161

  2. When satisfactory work has been recorded (grade of C/CR or better), repetition of coursework shall be permitted:

    1. When such repetition is necessary for a student to meet a legally mandated training requirement as a condition of continued paid or volunteer employment. Petition is not necessary. All grades and units awarded for the repeated course each time shall be included for purposes of calculating student's grade point average. Title 5, section 55763(c), 58161
    2. For the maximum repetitions as permitted by the repeat code assigned to the course. Petition is not necessary. All grades and units awarded for the repeated course each time shall be included for purposes of calculating student's grade point average. Title 5, section 58161
    3. Upon petition and with approval of the designated official of the Admissions and Records Office, if the District finds that the previous grade is, at least in part, the result of extenuating circumstances. Extenuating circumstances are verified cases of accidents, illness, or other circumstances beyond the control of the student; or the District has determined that the student should repeat a course because there has been a significant lapse of time since the student previously took the course. Grades and units awarded for the repeated course shall not be counted in calculating a student's grade point average. Title 5, section 55763(b) and 58161
    4. Upon petition and with approval of the designated official of the Admissions and Records Office, based on a District finding that a compelling need or benefit exists. Grades and units awarded for the repeated course shall not be counted in calculating a student's grade point average. Title 5, section 55763(b)

All coursework on the student's permanent academic record shall be annotated in such a manner that all work remains legible, ensuring a true and complete academic history. Title 5, section 55760, 55761, 55763, 58161
