  • The Library Catalog
To locate collections of speeches from the main menu of the Library Catalog choose the Exact Search tab (if not already selected) and choose Exact Subject Heading as the search type.
Subject headings that should be useful include:

Speech Index (Ref/A13/.S85) This work and its supplements direct you to collections of speeches.  Use it when you are looking for a speech on a specific topic or by a specific individual.

Cover Speech Index

Representative American Speeches (PS/668/.B3/1937 to the present)  An annual collection of significant American speeches on a variety of topics.

  • Periodicals
Vital Speeches Magazine; Vital Speeches of the Day.  A monthly magazine publishing important recent speeches.
New York Times.  As a newspaper "of record" the New York Time usually publishes the full text of important speeches made the previous day.
The library's electronic indexes to newspapers and magazines such as Expanded Academic ASAP (Info Trac), Proquest Research Libraries, and Proquest Newspapers may carry the text of specific newsworthy speeches.
  • World Wide Web
  Librarians' Index to the Internet at http://lii.org lists many excellent fulltext speech collections. Enter speeches in the query box to retrieve the list of sites.
