If you have attended SRJC in the past but have not enrolled in classes for two consecutive semesters, you will need to fill out a new application.
Do I need to have my transcripts sent from other colleges that I have attended?
You should send them if you are using them to satisfy prerequisites, if you want an Associate degree from SRJC, or if you are planning to transfer to a 4-year school. If you are taking classes for personal enrichment, or updating job skills, it may not be necessary to have them sent.
There is a formal process through the Admissions, Records and Enrollment Development Department to evaluate transcripts. You must submit an official transcript (unopened and sent directly from the institution) along with a request for this evaluation, to have a formal evaluation completed. However, counselors can often assist you with an informal evaluation and help you determine if you need to request a formal evaluation.
Because SRJC's registration priority is based on units completed, for some students it is an advantage to send their transcripts as they may qualify for an earlier registration when they register for subsequent semesters.
A counselor can help you consider educational goals and requirements, review your previous work, and find classes that meet your goals. If you are taking 9 or more units, you are required to work with a counselor and develop an educational plan. You are allowed to register for 8.5 units without seeing a counselor.
The sooner you see a counselor, the better. Appointments are available most of the year, except during registration. For an appointment call 527-4451, Santa Rosa Campus, or call 778-3914 for the Petaluma Campus.
What if I already have a BS, BA or AA degree?
In general there is no difference in the admissions process, registration process or fees for students who have degrees. If you have a bachelor's degree, and indicate this on your application for admission, it is optional for you to see a counselor, even if you are taking 9 units or more.
Do I need to take placement tests?
If you have successfully completed college English and math you will usually not need to take placement tests. If you are taking any SRJC classes that have English or math prerequisites, you will need to use the Prerequisite Equivalency Form. If it has been a long time since you took the prior classes, you may want to consider taking the placement tests as an indication of your current skill level.

There is a chemistry placement test for students who want to take CHEM 1A or CHEM 4A and who have not completed any college chemistry.
How do I register for a course when I took the prerequisite course at another college?
You will need to fill out a Prerequisite Equivalency Form and submit it to the Admissions Office. Click here for a copy of this form.
You are encouraged to submit this form in advance and it is very important that you sign it. During registration, this form will be processed the same day that it is received. You can submit the form separately from your transcripts.
I was dismissed or on probation the last time I attended SRJC. Can I take classes again?
If you were on probation, there are some problems with your academic record, but you are eligible to apply and register for classes. If you were on dismissal and have not registered for classes at SRJC for one full semester, you are eligible to apply and register for classes.
With either probation or dismissal, it is important that you work with a counselor to assist you with your academic record and to consider options to help you successfully complete your classes.
