13.5 Units
The Certificate of Competency may be part of a "ladder" of skills, beginning with job entry skills and leading to a full Career Certificate, or may constitute a skill set that enables the student to upgrade or advance in an existing career.

The Nursery Production Skills Certificate introduces students to the propagation and growing of plants for use in the home, business, or the landscape. Nursery production work involves plant propagation by seed and vegetative methods and the production of trees, shrubs, annuals, perennial herbs, cut flowers, and indoor plants. The program provides a broad base of plant knowledge and nursery skills.
The certificate program is designed as one rung in a career ladder, allowing students the option of entering a variety of jobs with preparation for rapid advancement in their chosen occupations and for continuing education. Since a core component of the courses is also required for other SRJC horticulture certificate programs, students may earn the Nursery Technician or Nursery Management Career Certificate by completing additional courses.
The program emphasizes hands-on learning and most courses incorporate lab activities that apply knowledge and skills in realistic settings. The program is actively supported by the local horticulture industry.
The Nursery Production Skills Certifcate will be awarded upon fulfillment of the 13.5 units of requirements with a grade of "C" or better.
The requirements for this certificate are effective beginning the semester shown below. If you began working on this certificate before the effective semester, you may not be affected by any changes to the program.
