The Certificate of Competency may be part of a "ladder" of skills, beginning with job entry skills and leading to a full Career Certificate, or may constitute a skill set that enables the student to upgrade or advance in an existing career.

The Landscape Maintenance Skills Certificate program is designed to offer students an entry point into the landscape industry. Students gain skills equipping them to work as part of a landscape maintenance crew or to work independently as a landscape maintenance provider. Coursework required in this certificate program also applies to the Landscape Technician and Landscape Management Certificates. Consequently, students completing this certificate are prepared to continue coursework that will enable them to advance in the landscape industry.
The program emphasizes hands-on learning and most courses incorporate lab activities that apply knowledge and skills in realistic settings. The program is actively supported by the local horticulture industry. The Landscape Maintenance Skills Certificate will be awarded upon fulfillment of the 10.5 units of requirements with a "C" grade of better.
The requirements for this certificate are effective beginning the semester shown below. If you began working on this certificate before the effective semester, you may not be affected by any changes to the program. Consult with the program advisor to determine your eligibility to complete the certificate under previous requirements.
