PROGRAM

The Modular Basic Academy consists of three distinct modules offered over an 11 month period. Successful completion of each module satisfies the POST training requirements for Level III, Level II and Level Reserve Officer certification. Completion of all three modules also satisfies the POST training requirements for the Basic Law Enforcement course and meets the minimum POST training standards to be eligible for employment as a peace office in California.


DATE

Students who have completed any Reserve Officer Training prior to January 1999 would not be eligible to enroll in either Module B or C without taking Module A. Students who have completed Module A or B prior to that date are eligible to enroll in the next module. This applies to student completing these modules at another community college that is certified to present them.

NOTES

A Certificate of Completion will be granted upon successful completion of each module beginning with Module A with a grade of "C" or better.

Admission to the Program

A Department of Jutice fingerprint clearance prior to beginning Module A. For student coming from other community colleges and enrolling in Module B or C, a DOJ clearance must be submitted that was issued less than one year prior to the date of the first class meeting.

In order to be admitted to any of the modules, a student must have the following documents on file with the academy on the first day of class:

  1. Valid California Driver's License (Academy requirement).

  2. DOJ Fingerprint clearance (State requirement).

  3. Academy Administrative Forms - supplied upon application to the program.

  4. Medical Examination Clearance to participate in strenuous physical activities. (Level 2 - Academy Requirement).

  5. Student must pass the POST Level I Entry Examination prior to being admitted into the final module (State requirement).

  6. A student must not have been convicted of a felony or specified misdemeanors in the State that would preclude them from possessing a firearm. This would also apply to convictions outside the state of California that would, if committed here, be a felony or specified misdemeanor precluding the possession of a firearm.

  7. Modified Academy Uniform in Module A and B including leather gear.

  8. Full Academy Uniform including leather gear in Module C.
