This program provides practical and technical instruction to meet the requirements of various law enforcement agencies at the local, state and federal levels.
The basic responsibilities of a law enforcement officer are to preserve the peace, prevent crime, protect life and property, enforce laws and detect and arrest violators of the law. He or she is obligated, according to the democratic system, to ensure the security of individual rights and maintain social order.
Education and training is becoming increasingly important for the men and women who seek careers in law enforcement and security work. This program is designed to provide the student with the courses to best prepare for a position in a sheriff's office, police departments, CHP, Fish and Game, and private security.
The requirements for this certificate are effective beginning the semester shown below. If you began working on this certificate before the effective semester, you may not be affected by any changes to the program. Consult with a counselor or department chair to determine your eligibility to complete the certificate under previous requirements.
