Administration of Justice/Public Safety
39 Units
Career Certificates are intended to certify that students successfully completing this program are prepared to enter the careers associated with this certificate. They usually take at least one to two years to complete. These programs are approved by the California Community College Chancellor's Office.

The Corrections program prepares students to seek work as county or state correctional officers, counselor aides, and probation or parole aides. The program also prepares students for transfer to a four year institution in order to pursue a career as a parole or probation officer on the county, state, or federal level. The field of corrections has been targeted as one of the growth areas for employment. Certification is required for Corrections Officers within 90 days of hire.
The Corrections Program prepares students to seek work as correctional, probation, and parole officers at the federal,state and county levels. Also youth guidance supervisors, probation aides, counselor aides, community service officers, etc. Upon graduation from the junior college some of the above catagories are obtainable. Probation and Parole Officers require a four year degree.
The requirements for this certificate are effective beginning the semester shown below. If you began working on this certificate before the effective semester, you may not be affected by any changes to the program. Consult with the program advisor to determine your eligibility to complete the certificate under previous requirements.

There are other courses that are required for the associate degree. Consult with your advisor or counselor for information.
A Certificate of Completion will be granted upon fulfillment of the 39 units of major requirements with a grade of "C" or better.
Suggested Administration of Justice Electives: Administration of Justice 58 and other Administration of Justice courses as offered.
AJ56 is recommended for students who are undecided about pursuing the Administration of Justice Certificate.
Suggested General Education Transfer Electives: Business Administration 52 Sociology 10 English 1A Speech 1A, 60 Psychology 1A Theater Arts 1
It is recommended that transfer students to a four-year college or university complete the general education requirements along with the Administration of Justice certificate program.
Corrections majors may wish to consider work experience and an internship in their area of interest.
