Wireless Internet Access

The SRJC libraries offer two methods of wireless Internet access: via one of the libraries' laptops or via your own wireless laptop.

Library Laptops

SRJC students and staff whose library accounts are in good standing may check out library laptops for instruction-related computing inside the libraries. To check out one of the library wireless laptops, present your SRJC ID card at the Circulation Desk (Doyle Library - second floor, Mahoney Library - first floor). Loan period is 3 hours, and if no one is waiting for a laptop, you may renew the loan at the Circulation Desk. Laptops must be returned to the desk 15 minutes before closing time.

NOTE: You are solely responsible for the library laptop during the period for which you checked it out, including any damage, loss or theft. Overdue fine: $10/hr. Replacement fee: $2,500.

Batteries

Doyle Library - To renew your loan, bring the laptop back to the Circulation Desk and exchange it for one with a fresh battery.

Mahoney Library - Laptops have either two batteries (longer battery life during the loan period) or one battery and a CD/DVD drive. Circulation Desk staff will provide whichever you want

Using Your Own Wireless Laptop in the Libraries

You may access the Internet from your own wireless laptop inside both the Doyle and the Mahoney libraries and outside, immediately surrounding the library buildings. To find out how, please read the FAQ, the disclaimer, the acceptable use policy and the setup instructions for Windows or Macintosh computers which are located on the SRJC Computing Services' Department's wireless page . (Note particularly the sections pertaining to security, privacy, and confidentiality risks.)

NOTE: To use this service, you must know how to use your own laptop's wireless access and you must be able to read and follow the instructions on the Computing Services wireless page; Library staff will not able to provide technical assistance with your computer. Please consult your computer's manual. You might also be able to find answers to questions at the manufacturer's support pages for your laptop or PDA:

If you are unable to configure your own laptop for use with the Library's wireless system, you may still check out a library laptop at the Circulation Desk. The Library's own laptops are already set up for in-house wireless access.
