Guidelines for Placing Materials on Reserve in the SRJC Libraries
Why Reserves? If you would like all or most of the students in your class to read the same materials, it's a good idea to place the materials on reserve for the semester during which your class is taught. Reserve items are placed in a closed stack area and are given shorter check-out periods so that everyone in your class gets a chance to use them. What Can I Put on Reserve?Almost anything you'd like your students to read or use can be placed on reserve. The reserve collection includes books (library books as well as instructors' own books), pamphlets, CD-ROMS, excerpts from books and photocopies of articles (within the the current copyright guidelines), lecture notes, copies of past exams, answer keys and sample student research papers. Even boxes of rocks have been placed on reserve for Geology classes. Headphones are available at the Doyle Library Reserve Desk and the Mahoney Library Circulation Desk for use with class-related CDs and web pages. How Long Can Reserve Items Be Checked Out?You determine the loan period when you place an item on reserve for your class. There are four options:
If you would like, you may also put copies of non-copyrighted documents
such as personal papers and old exams on your own class web page so that your students can access them during times when the library
is not open. These documents will be viewable by anyone who has access to
the World Wide Web.
Thanks for your help in making the Reserve collection work for all your students. If you have any questions, feel free to contact theDoyle Library (Santa Rosa) Reserve Desk at ext. 4758 or the Mahoney Library (Petaluma) Circulation Desk at ext. 3974.
