Bookmark Us!When you use your web browser to save a website or article to your "favorites" or your "bookmarks," you can only use the favorites and bookmarks on the computer where you saved them. But now you can save links to the Library's webpages and articles on a social bookmarking website where you use them from any computer, not just the one where you originally saved them. How does it work? There are many social networking websites which allow this kind of bookmarking. The first thing you'll need to do is set up a free account with one of these websites. del.icio.us is one of the oldest and most popular bookmarking sites, but there are many others, such as digg, Google Bookmarks and others. For example, go to del.icio.us and click the word "Register" in the upper right corner of the page. Follow the instructions there to set up your free account. Now that you have an account, whenever you see this image The Library uses AddThis.com, a service which lets you save your favorites to any of about 36 different bookmarking sites. Then you can get back to us without having to remember where the page you were looking at is located. You can even "tag" the link you save with your own words, words which will be easy for you to remember when you want to find this page again. For example, if I wanted to bookmark the Library's "How to Cite Information Resources" page, I might use the tags "listofworkscited" and bibliography and howto and guides, but you can use any words or phrases that will help you find the page again. More About Social BookmarkingIn case you're not familiar with social bookmarking or web tagging or you'd just like to read more about it, here are a few links that will help explain it to you:
Bookmarking articles in the Library's online databasesSome of the Library's online databases make it possible to bookmark a specific magazine or newspaper article on your bookmarking website. To save an article in one of the InfoTrac databases, bookmark the InfoMark page for the article you want to save; to save an article in the ProQuest databases, use the "Bookmark this article" feature, then bookmark that page on de.licio.us or whatever bookmarking site you use. If you're not sure where to find the InfoMark version of your article, ask the Reference librarian for help.
