Library Instruction & Information Competency Training | |
|
Learning good research skills is an ongoing process. SRJC librarians have developed many tools to help you learn, ranging from two-page guides and exercises to short, credit courses. Credit CoursesThe Library Department currently offers three credit courses on research techniques and information literacy skills.
Numerous sections of each course are offered, and classes are available at both the Santa Rosa and the Petaluma campuses, as well as online. Courses meet the SRJC Area I information literacy graduation requirement. For more information about these courses, see SRJC's online Schedule of Classes under "Library and Information Resources." Library Skills ProgramThis program offers a number of short self-paced exercises which help you become familiar with the layout of the library and introduce you to some of the library's basic research tools. To obtain the exercises, ask at the library Reference Desk or download and print your own copies from the Library Skills Program web page. Library GuidesThe SRJC librarians have developed many instructional guides which will help you learn to use the Library and its online information resources. Some guides explain how to do something (find a book on the shelf, find magazine articles, etc.) while others give you tips on how to research particular topic areas.
