How to Use the Library's Online Databases at Home

The Library's license agreements with publishers of our online databases require that we give access only to current SRJC students, faculty and staff. In order to prove to the publisher's computer that you are a legitimate SRJC user, you must apply for an SRJC Library User Name and PIN. Be sure to enter the information in exactly the format indicated in the examples on the application page.

When you want to use one of the library's electronic databases from your home computer, go to the library's Articles & Databases page just as if you were in the library. Select the database you wish to search. But instead of clicking the "On campus" link for the database, click the Off campus link.

You'll then be asked to enter your SRJC User Name and PIN. (NOTE: The SRJC authentication computer is often not available between midnight and approximately 7:00 A.M., thus access to the databases is also not available from off campus during those hours.)

Once you are connected to the SRJC PIN Authentication server, you'll be prompted for your User Name and PIN. To give the computer this information,

  1. Press the TAB key on your keyboard to place the blinking cursor in the first box (or simply click once in the box).
  2. Type your User Name in the first box.
  3. Press the TAB key to move to the next box (or click in the box).
  4. Type your PIN in the box.
  5. Press the Proceed button.
  6. Once you're connected to the database, search it the same way you would if you were on campus.
To begin a search in another database, return to the library's Articles &Databases page and select the database you want to search, and repeat this process. (Be sure to click the Off campus link.)
