Major Collections

September 11 Web Archive
This archive is a collaboration between the Library of Congress, the Internet Archive and webArchivist.org. The collection contains more than 5 terabytes of data gathered from September 11, 2001 to the present, from thousands of government and military web sites, charitable organizations, business and corporate, national and international news sites, web portals like Yahoo!, advocacy and special interest web sites, educational, religious and professional associations and individual or volunteer websites. The archive can be searched by keyword, browsed by category, or searched by URL (for example, to see all pages from cnn.com in the archives). See also Witness and Response: September 11 Acquisitions at the Library of Congress, the website for an exhibit which featured prints, photographs, children's drawings, poems, eye-witness accounts and personal reactions, headlines, books, magazines, songs, maps, videotapes and films added to the Library's collections in its American Folklife Center, Geography and Map Division, Area Studies/Oversees Offices and various other divisions of the Library.
The September 11 Digital Archive
A partnership with the Library of Congress, the American Red Cross Museum, and the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History, this archive offers personal stories and e-mail related to September 11, collections of still and moving images (photos, art, videos, animation...), audiorecordings of voices on September 11 experiences, documents such as fliers, reports and interviews, a portal to other websites about September 11 and a collection of "9/11 FAQs."
America's War Against Terrorism
From the University of Michigan Library's Documents Center, this large collection of links offers information on many aspects of the September 11th attack and its aftermath. Topics include specific countries and terrorists, trials, New York, the economic impact of the attacks, psychological causes, psychological effects, public opinion, refugees, the shadow government, victims, the airlines, the Arab world, Arab Americans, the 9/11 Commission and many, many more. Categories recently added include terrorism suspects and prosecution, counterterrorism activities and issues, previous attacks, post September 11 attacks and background research on topics such as the Arab world, Arab-Israeli conflict, laws and regulations and staticstics.
Librarians' Index to the Internet - September 11 and Beyond
An excellent collection of links to websites on many topics related to the September 11 attack and its aftermath. Topics include: The economic impact, environmental impact and cleanup, first person accounts, artistic, literary and musical responses, rumors & hoaxes, post-September 11 censorship and freedom of information, the architecture of the WTC towers, rebuilding lower Manhattan and the World Trade Center, and also Afghanistan, Afghan women, peace & nonviolence, the Taliban, terrorism, and much, much more. Sites were selected by librarians around the United States, and each item is annotated.

This website provides material from a variety of CQ Press sources including encyclopedia articles on the political and religious history of Afghanistan, on the Clinton administration's strikes on Osama bin Laden and on concepts such as War and Religion and Jihad; three issues of The CQ Researcher offering in-depth studies on Combating Terrorism, Islamic Fundamentalism and the Middle East Conflict; and more.
CNN Special Report: War Against Terror
A collection of news stories, photos and video, and other information on the World Trade Center Attack, its victims, the ongoing war against terrorism, preparedness of U.S. cities, Afghanistan, Bin Laden, anthrax and more. Viewers can post a tribute to an online memorial in honor of a victim.
BBC In Depth Report: War on Terror
Outstanding collection from the British Broadcasting Corporation. In addition to news stories, analysis and feature articles, includes photographs, audio and video clips. Offers fact files on Bin Laden, Afghan power brokers, ongoing investigations, and military forces, information and analysis on security concerns, rebuilding Afghanistan, and Afghanistan's civilian death toll. A "Background" section offers information on the Taliban, jihad, the Northern Alliance, Afghanistan's tribal groups and more. Also includes profiles of "key players" (General Pervez Musharraf, Mullah Mohammed Omar, etc.) and eyewitness and survivor accounts from the World Trade Center attack.
BBC In Depth Report: Investigating Al Qaeda
Offers a timeline showing the history of Osama Bin Laden's network and attacks linked to it, a "Who's Who" of key suspects in the Al Qaeda network, and additional in-depth reports on the money trail, "America's Day of Terror," and "September 11 in Context," and numerous BBC news stories, TV and radio reports on related topics.
The New Yorker: September 11, 2001
A collection of many of The New Yorker articles and commentaries on the terrorist attacks, their possible causes and background, and their aftermath. Also includes related articles from the magazine's archives.

PBS program on the religion of Islam and Islamic culture (art, literature, architecture, etc). Includes historical timeline and profiles of Muhammed, Saladin and other important figures in Islam as well as educational lessons to accompany the PBS film Islam: Empire of Faith.
Exploring Religions - Islam
Information on various aspects of Islam, including religious and political organization, view of the cosmos, days of worship, the calendar, sacred texts and tales, and Islamic observances of the life cycle. The site also offers maps, a glossary of terms, a timeline and links to related websites.
Internet Islamic History Sourcebook
From History professor Paul Halsall, an extensive collection of public domain documents and links to other websites on many aspects of Islam, beginning with the pre-Islamic Arab world. Topics include history and politics, Islamic faith and theology, women in Islam, gender and sexuality in classical Islam, interactions with the West, Islamic nationalism and the Islamic world since 1945.

Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA)
RAWA is a political/social organization of Afghan women struggling for peace, freedom, democracy and women's rights. September 11: Bearing Witness to History
From the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, this site embodies the best efforts of [the museum] staff ... to document and preserve a wide range of stories about September 11." The museum collection, a work in progress, includes a variety of objects related to the September 11 attacks (photographs, the cell phone used by Mayor Giuliani, personal objects recovered from the World Trade Center, crushed file cabinets, cars, etc.) as well as audio recordings from the museum's curators and people who have submitted their stories.
9/11 Report - Joint Inquiry Into Intelligence Community Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001, S. Rept. 107-351 and H. Rept. 107-792
In February 2002, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence agreed to conduct a Joint Inquiry into the activities of the U.S. Intelligence Community in connection with the terrorist attacks perpetrated against our nation on September 11, 2001. This report (available as both S. Rept. 107-351 and H. Rept. 107-792) consists of 832 pages that presents the joint inquiry's findings and conclusions, an accompanying narrative, and a series of recommendations. The FullReport (5.51MB, 858 pages) is available as a single file, however, the files have also been broken down into smaller parts, based on the table of contents.

Compensation for Losses from the 9/11 Attack
" This monograph examines the benefits received by those who were killed or seriously injured on 9/11 and the benefits provided to individuals and businesses in New York City that suffered losses from the attack on the World Trade Center. The authors examine the performance of the compensation system ? insurance, tort, government programs, and charity ? in responding to the losses stemming from 9/11. "
