Internet Search Engines

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Internet search engines are a type of software available on the World Wide Web which lets you search for a specific word or phrase on millions of web pages. Some of today's search engines allow you to search not only for words on Web pages, but also for words in news stories, scholarly books and papers, U.S. patents, online conversations, blogs and more. Some will search for images, maps and videos.

There are many different Internet search engines, and they don't all work exactly the same way. Be sure to read the "Help" instructions for the search engine you select. If you get stuck, ask the reference librarian for help.
