Opposing Viewpoints (SRJC students, faculty & staff only)
A database which offers thousands of articles with differing points of view on many controversial topics (abortion, assisted suicide, capital punishment, church and state....). Convenient for gathering pro and con arguments. Includes topic overviews, statistics,  primary documents, magazine and newspaper articles and links to related websites.

A collection of magazine and newspaper articles, government documents, reference books, viewpoint essays and selected websites. See the Pro vs. Con box for pro and con articles on controversial topics like capital punishment.
CQ Researcher (SRJC students, faculty & staff only)
A database which offers lengthy and substantive reports on current affairs topics. Search for capital punishment to find four reports on the death penalty, with the most recent from September 2005. Each report offers an overview of the topic, background information, a description of the current situation and the outlook for the future, any special factors (Is the defendant mentally retarded? Does capital punishment actually deter crime? etc.), a chronology (timeline), pro and con arguments, a bibliography listing books and articles on the topic, discussion of what happens next, a list of organizations you can contact for more information, and footnotes or references. Reports include photos, statistical charts and maps when appropriate.
ProQuest (SRJC students, faculty & staff only)
A database which offers thousands of articles from magazines, scholarly journals and newspapers. See also ProQuest Religion for articles with a religious perspective on capital punishment. In either case, click the "Topics" tab, then type "capital punishment" and click "Find term."

Death Penalty Information Center
Includes a database of all executions since 1976, searchable by name, year, age, race, gender, location, method of execution, and special factors. Also provides reports on issues such as deterrence, innocence, juveniles, mental illness, and costs, as well as facts about death row, crimes which are punishable by the death penalty, sentencing, data for individual states, death penalty history and news and an extensive list of death penalty web links.

An interactive site which allows you to state your own opinions then read pro and con arguments concerning various aspects of capital punishment and to answer several basic questions which might result in your being selected or not selected to serve on a jury. Also offers state by state profiles and statistics and links to selected websites on the death penalty.

The Innocence Project
The Innocence Project works to exonerate the wrongfully convicted through  postconviction DNA testing and to develop and implement reforms to prevent wrongful convictions.  The Project only handles cases where postconviction DNA testing can yield conclusive proof  of innocence. Their website offers information on the Project, profiles and stories of the wrongfully convicted who've been exonerated, discussions concerning what causes wrongful convictions and how to fix the problems, and links to related websites. (Not limited to death penalty cases)
