Noncredit Matriculation Coordination

Santa Rosa Junior College provides matriculation services for students enrolled in certain noncredit course categories, such as: Elementary and Secondary Basic Skills, English as a Second Language, Students with Substantial Disabilities, and Short-Term Vocational Courses.

Services available for noncredit students at Santa Rosa Junior College include Admissions, Orientation, Assessment and Counseling/Advising and are based on the premise that these services are vital to the full participation, retention and matriculation of noncredit students, particularly those transitioning into or back into the workforce.

Admissions

Registration for noncredit classes is a simple process. Completion of the one-page registration form is the student’s application to noncredit programs and services. As soon as the registration form is completed and received by Admissions and Records, the student is registered. Registration forms are available at the Admissions and Records Office and from instructors in the classroom. Students may also register on line at http://www.santarosa.edu/admissions. Assistance to completing the registration form is available for students with special needs. Classes are open-entry/open-exit and students may register anytime during the school year, provided there is space available in the class or program.

Residency Requirements
There are no residency requirements. Noncredit classes and programs are available to all members of the community.

Enrollment Fees and Expenses
There are no enrollment fees for noncredit classes and programs. Some classes may have a small materials fee, which is usually payable at the time of registration.

Orientation

Orientation programs for noncredit students are available in the following departments:

Assessment

Students enrolling in College Skills courses complete a preliminary assessment instrument, which helps determine the appropriate instrument to be used in a more comprehensive assessment. A writing sample is then completed, and all this information is combined with additional relevant information obtained in consultation with the student to determine appropriate course selection and educational and/or vocational goals. Further information regarding Assessment questions for noncredit college skills students is available by contacting Toni Eaton in the College Skills/Tutorial Department located in Room 611 of the Analy Temporaries on the Santa Rosa campus, or by phone at 527-4834.

Students enrolling in noncredit ESL are assessed at the beginning of the semester by completing a multiple measure questionnaire and receiving additional assistance from instructors or instructional aides if necessary. An oral assessment is completed and students are then placed in the appropriate literacy level class. Further information regarding assessment services can be obtained by contacting the Noncredit ESL Coordinator, Marti Estrin, located in Room 1206 in Barnett Hall on the Santa Rosa campus, or by phone at 527-4251.
