Wine Studies
 

 

The Wine and Vines concentration is a hybrid program combining the wine and viticulture instructional training necessary for a variety of entry-level positions, including grower relations manager, viticulture wine quality specialist, wine educator and tour guide.  Positions are available in wineries and other venues where a knowledge of wines, wine marketing, and viticulture practices are required.

Expert Instruction from Industry Professionals

Bob Fraser is the chair of SRJC's Agriculture and Natural Resources Department.  He is the owner of winejuding.com which produces the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, and is the wine judging coordinator for the Sonoma County Harvest Fair. Richard Thomas is professor emeritus at SRJC with over 30 years as the Viticulture Program Coordinator.  A world-renowned expert in viticultural practices, he was the first coordinator of the Sonoma County Harvest Fair and often judges U.S. wine competitions.
Barry H. Gump, Ph.D. is a professor of Chemistry/Enology at CSU, Fresno, author of Wine Analysis and Production, technical editor for the Journal of the American Society for Enology and Viticulture, and a professional wine judge expert in enology and viticulture analytical methodology. Chris Wills, winemaking consultant, former winemaker and enology instructor, teaches winery practices and enology/fermentation science classes.  He holds an AA degree in Chemistry and a BS degree in Fermentation Science.
Pat Henderson is a senior winemaker whose university and hands-on expertise is applied at Kenwood Vineyards and previously at Domaine Chandon, Schramsberg, Chappellet, and Valley of the Moon wineries.
