Developments in metallurgy have created many new types of metals that require new techniques. Welders who qualify are always in demand. The current hourly rate for welders is $10-$18. Welders are employed in many areas of industry throughout the country and skilled welders are usually in demand. The welding trade is growing as industries employ welders to help increase production and reduce costs. A person seeking employment will need entry-level skills that can be learned in the one-year program at Santa Rosa Junior College. On-the-job training is usually too costly for an employer; however, more advanced skills are learned through work experience. At this time, Sonoma County manufacturing is growing thereby affording excellent employment opportunities for the qualified person.
