The Watershed Management emphasis is designed to give students the
knowledge and skills related to the protection, restoration, and
functions of watersheds. Students participate in aquatic
assessments of tributaries, rivers, surface water, groundwater, and
wetlands. Students learn to understand that stakeholders
within a watershed can work together to ensure healthy watershed
conditions. Studies focus on the ecosystem approach to
watershed management and cooperation with other watershed users.
Students will receive firsthand experience in the restoration of
riparian corridors and appreciate the biologic and economic need for
restoring and
maintaining watershed health in California.
Watershed Technicians assist in data collection, flora and fauna
inventory, and watershed restoration projects, including compiling
technical data in computer database systems. They may also
develop watershed plans, conduct watershed workshops, or work as
biological technicians.
The work of a Watershed Management Technician supports and
complements that of the professional Watershed Manager.
