Agribusiness

Welcome to Agribusiness at SRJC!

The Agribusiness major teaches the application of business concepts to the agricultural industry. Because of the selection of course offerings, a broad range of occupational choices is available to the student. These include crop production, sales and marketing positions, federal, state and county government units, agricultural communications, farm and ranch management, and viticulture. The core curriculum is designed to provide students with an understanding of the basic functions of agriculture economics and business and the application of theory and practice to the agribusiness industry. The electives allow the student to design a curriculum that is more closely aligned with the student's education and career goals.

The goal of the Agribusiness major is to prepare students for the baccalaureate major in Agribusiness. Courses required in the program are designed to be transferable to fulfill the lower division major requirements in three different four-year colleges. Since the Agribusiness major requirements vary widely from college to college, not all courses are articulated to all three transfer programs. Instead, SRJC's major program is designed to fulfill major requirements at each of the three transfer institutions. The major electives offer flexibility: students can tailor their elective choice to fit the major requirements of the chosen transfer institution. In addition, the lower division general education courses provide a foundation for upper division work.

The Agribusiness major is the largest undergraduate major in the field of agriculture, in terms of numbers of students throughout the country and in the state. SRJC's program historically has been a springboard for students desiring to pursue an Agribusiness major at a four-year institution. The establishment of an Agribusiness major at SRJC will enable students to fulfill lower division major requirements and general education requirements in preparation for transfer to a major program at a four-year college or university.
