SRJC Nursing Students Vaccinate Thousands
by Ezbon Jen
In 2009, approximately 37,000 Americans died from the seasonal flu and several hundred thousands more were hospitalized. The most important way to prevent these unnecessary deaths is to vaccinate the public.
To help in this massive national and local effort, 100 Associate Degree Nursing and 27 Licensed Vocational Nursing students from SRJC played a key role in vaccinating Sonoma County residents to protect the health of the community. SRJC students vaccinated 5, 578 individuals for both the seasonal flu and the H1N1 influenza in weekend clinics. College faculty and agency supervisors were overwhelmed with positive feedback from those receiving the vaccinations about the outstanding performance of SRJC students.
