** Applications will be accepted for this adjunct faculty pool for a period of one year from the filing priority deadline date. If the department has an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, they will review applications received by the priority deadline date. All applications received after the priority deadline will remain on file for the next review by the department. If the department does not have an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, all applications will remain on file until the need arises. If selected for an interview, candidates will be invited to meet with a committee. If selected for the pool, candidates remain in the pool for a period of two years.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Physical Education Dance & Athletics Department of Santa Rosa Junior College is seeking a pool of qualified candidates with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty and administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly to our students. Teaching assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate or as needed (as specified in Education Code Section 87482.5).

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Department of Physical Education, Dance, and Athletics offers a comprehensive, well-rounded program which meets the needs of our varied student population. The department offers both an Associate's of Arts and Associate's of Science degree in Physical Education. A wide variety of activity classes accommodate students ranging in age from high school students to senior adults. Our numerous class offerings are enhanced by outstanding facilities including a state-of-the-art weight room, renovated football and track and field stadium and an expanded sports medicine/athletic training facility. In addition, a swimming facility with both competitive indoor and outdoor pools, two gymnasiums, eight tennis courts, baseball, softball and multi-use outdoor fields, provide for a full complement of physical education activity classes as well as 20 varsity intercollegiate athletic teams. All athletic related events are at the Santa Rosa Campus.

ADJUNCT POOL DESCRIPTION

We are seeking instructor/coaches for inclusion in a pool who have the ability to teach/coach in one or more of the following areas:

Aquatics***
Athletic Training **
Cheerleading/Mascot Performance/Dance Team
Coaching
Dance-Ballroom, Hip Hop
Fencing***
Judo
Pilates & Yoga***
Step Aerobics
Tennis***
Weight Training

** While we are accepting applications for all areas as detailed above, there are immediate needs anticipated for Athletic Training, at the Santa Rosa Campus.

Assignments could involve full or partial assignment at any of the District?s sites or off-campus locations, and could involve any combination of day or evening classes, with office hours being mandatory. Adjunct faculty are responsible for maintaining currency in their field(s) of expertise. All faculty are encouraged to participate in updating existing courses (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or on-line courses); assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes; participating in departmental activities and other college service such as committee work; and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required for Aquatics, Fencing, Pilates, Step Aerobics, and Yoga: Master's Degree in Physical Education, Education with an emphasis in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Physiology of Exercise, or Adaptive Physical Education; OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above; AND Master's Degree in Dance, any Life Science, Physiology, Health Education, Recreation Administration, or Physical Therapy; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Physical Education.

Required for Athletic Training: Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology or other allied science with an emphasis in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine; AND two years of full time (or part-time equivalent) related experience; AND certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC); AND current CPR Adult Certificate; AND current California Driver's License with a good driving record; OR the equivalent.

Required for Dance : Master's Degree in Dance, Physical Education with a Dance emphasis, or Theatre with a Dance emphasis; OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master's Degree in Physical Education, any Life Science, Physiology, Theatre Arts, Kinesiology, Humanities, Performing Arts, or Music; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Dance.

Required for Judo, Coaching, Cheerleading/Mascot Performance/Dance Team: Bachelor's Degree AND two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) Physical Education teaching or coaching experience; OR an Associate's degree AND six years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) Physical Education teaching or coaching experience; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Physical Education.

Additional Requirement for Coaching and Cheerleading/Mascot Performance/Dance Team: A good driving record (this assignment will require driving a district vehicle).

Required for all areas: Sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

- If applicable, completed Equivalency Form and supporting documents.
A brief statement describing your demonstrated experience in understanding and being sensitive to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
A brief cover letter explaining your interest in the pool, including how you meet the requirements and are qualified to perform the duties as listed in the "Adjunct Pool Description" section of this announcement. Please specify which area(s) you are interested in being considered for.
Current Resume.
Copies of transcripts of all college level course work (unofficial copies acceptable (both sides), but official transcripts must be submitted prior to hiring). If transcripts are from an institution outside of the United States, applicants must provide a formal evaluation of their foreign degree(s) at the time of application. b) Current DMV Printout verifying a good driving record (for Coaching assignments only).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Starting Hourly Rate: Salary placement may be based on academic background, vocational experience, and teaching experience depending on discipline and as documented in application materials. Initial Step placement will be a Step 1 pending evaluation of experience as outlined in Article 27 of the AFA Contract. Sick Leave Accrual: Adjunct faculty members accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis.

The office is located in the Button Building on the college campus and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
